On October 1, 1885, the Special Delivery service was initiated.The Postal Department issued a 10c stamp to inaugurate the new service. Used in addition to regular postage required, this stamp paid for the immediate delivery of a letter within one mile of any other Special Delivery post office.
The Gold Electroplated replica commemorates this Special Delivery issue.
